PAYOUT PRINCIPLES

Make the money clear before anyone reaches the final table.

A good schedule rewards first place without making the final paid position feel like a refund. Publish the payout shape before play begins, record every rebuy as it happens, and reconcile the total before registration closes.

This calculator records tournament accounting only. It does not collect money, determine tax treatment, or replace the rules and legal obligations that apply to your event.

How many places should a home poker tournament pay?

Two places is common for six to nine entries. Three places works well around ten to eighteen entries. Larger fields can pay roughly 15–20% of the field without making the smallest prize meaningless.

Should rebuys be included in the prize pool?

Usually yes when the full rebuy amount is advertised as going into the prize pool. If your event retains fees or league funds, subtract those amounts before confirming payouts.

What is a top-heavy payout?

A top-heavy payout gives a larger share to first place. Balanced payouts preserve a meaningful reward for winning while reducing the drop between paid positions.
