STACK BUILDING
Enough small chips to play. Enough large chips to finish.
The recommendation gives each player several chips at the denominations used early, then fills the rest of the stack with larger values. Keep the biggest chips off the table until they are useful and exchange smaller chips during scheduled breaks.
If the calculator cannot allocate the complete stack, add a smaller denomination or choose a starting stack divisible by the smallest chip value in your set.
How many chips should each player start with?
Roughly 20–35 physical chips per player is comfortable for most home tournaments. The total chip value matters less than its relationship to the opening blinds.
What is a good starting stack for a home tournament?
A 10,000 starting stack with 50/100 opening blinds gives every player 100 big blinds and works cleanly with common 25, 100, 500, 1,000, and 5,000 chips.
Do I need every chip denomination at the start?
No. Large-value chips can be held back and introduced during color-ups. Early stacks should prioritize denominations needed for the first several blind levels.
